Santa Fe's New, Groovy Community
Siler Rufina District
There is a new kid on the block, and it’s the Siler Rufina District. They officially organized a few years ago to unite, celebrate, and enhance vibrancy in our community through arts, entertainment and culture. You have, no doubt visited and may not have considered it a “hood” like you might the Railyard, or the Eastside. But like these areas, it has homes, and a rich variety of businesses that is creating a name and style for itself. The Siler Rufina District is a hub for craftspeople, manufacturing, industrial production, theater, non-profit organizations, artists, and more. It’s hip, progressive and very diverse.
Let’s start with those creative kids - Meow Wolf, which has been featured in the New York Times, and is now in other urban centers. Kakawa has a chocolate shop that you must visit on your way through. Escondido is making headlines with its innovative Mexican cuisine, located on Agua Fria! How about Tumbleroot for live music, and outdoor food trucks to hang out with the kids, friends or new acquaintances. Being practical, let’s not forget Big Joe Hardware, an institution in Santa Fe for personalized customer service and everything you need for the home. And Rockin Rollers - It’s not just for kids parties… The list of galleries is extensive! With the lower rents, prices are often more reasonable. Original art, which is a cornerstone of Santa Fe’s historic has a new, fresh face here. And the extensive food options as restaurants and food truck are also here, along with builders, landscapers and more.
But don’t take my word, come check it out!
August 10th
9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Explore a FREE Flea Market invented and hosted by Native-owned creative studio 4KINSHIP.
Locals and tourists will enjoy this unique, recycled market. It’s sustainable! Shoppers will find unique, one-of-a-kind items that tell a story and help reduce the demand for mass-produced goods. Shoppers can expect:
Vintage clothing & eclectic home goods — offering pre-loved items with a smaller environmental footprint
Southwest art, jewelry & pottery — crafted by artisans who preserve traditional methods while embracing sustainable practice
Local food vendors & herbalists — offering sustainable, plant-based options
Live DJ sets & performances — amplifying local, creative talent
Interactive experiences & giveaways — promoting sustainability through educational experiences
Many businesses from the area will be represented at the Flea. I’ll be there and hope to see you.
The district is also working on a mural art project, which will be impactful. Look for it. Food Depot and Kitchen Angels feed folks in need and Kitchenaility is a gold mine of gently used kitchenware. This dynamic district features craft beer, distilleries, and restaurants. It boasts an expanding gallery presence and a lively underground arts scene. Creative businesses are drawn to the area’s flexible live/workspaces and relatively affordable rents.
