Eldorado

Welcome to Eldorado

Private, affordable suburb near the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains

The incandescent pink of the desert sunrise and sunset each day bathes the mountain views of this diverse community of retirees and families, set amongst magnificent expanses of protected land. Just fifteen miles south of Santa Fe, Eldorado is a census-designated place built around swaths of open spaces and vast trails. It features sublime natural landscapes, quick access to major transportation routes, including I-25 and US 285, and a rural, suburban feeling.

Though habitation of the land spans back to ancient times—as with much of the residential area in Santa Fe—the community’s development didn’t truly begin until the 1970s and 1980s when AMREP began cultivating the area for residential living. Modern-day Eldorado is a framework of medium to small, affordable single-family homes built on relatively large lots towards the end of the 20th century. Pueblo and Territorial Revival styles dominate the scene, and the community is one of the most eco-friendly, solar power-based places in the country.

An outdoor oasis, Eldorado is known for its big open skies, plentiful trails, and quiet serenity. A haven for families and retirees, Eldorado’s ample space and modest upper-middle-class housing provide the perfect combination for an idyllic suburban life.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Eldorado has its own assortments of mixed-use centers and commercial areas on the outer edges of the community that provide everything its residents need to maintain their day-to-day lifestyles. For instance, the Agora Shopping Center houses a neighborhood shopping center, salon services, a women’s consignment store, banks, pet stores, family physicians, and several restaurants frequented by locals.

Arable, one of the most popular eateries in Eldorado, is located in the Agora Shopping Center, too. A farm-to-table extraordinaire, Arable embodies the heart of the warm and friendly community while serving up gourmet Southwestern comfort fare with the freshest ingredients possible. Set in another neighborhood shopping mall, La Tienda at Eldorado, La Plancha De Eldorado has a menu bursting with flavorful Latin American fare that pairs perfectly with their casual atmosphere and live music.

Grab your pick from the multitude of craft beer options at The Eldorado Taphouse, Santa Fe Brewing’s Eldorado location. With fourteen taps, wine, ciders, and TVs displaying the latest in sports, this taphouse is a classic beer bar and a great place to meet up with friends. Specializing in New American brunch and dinner dishes, Cafe Fina is a hotspot for enjoying a quick bite to eat. From gourmet sandwiches and omelets to Southwestern migas and lemongrass salmon bowls, Cafe Fina has plenty to satiate your appetite.

Things to Do

Developed with a sense of community in mind, Eldorado is brimming with amenities and facilities to keep you and your family entertained, busy, and active. Bountiful in land, Eldorado is an equestrian’s dream. The Eldorado Stables facility rests on 12 acres of gorgeous terrain and provides residents with access to its 36 barns, around 70 horses, and stables to accommodate every need. The center also hosts an annual Community Day, in which families are treated to an array of activities, and kids can sign up for small pony rides.

For man’s other best friends, Eldorado has an excellent dog park on its vast acreage as well, and this residents-only amenity comes with the assurance that all pets on the property are properly registered and vaccinated. Those that want to adventure out into wide-open spaces can head to the Eldorado Community Preserve, a dedicated wilderness area of over 4,000 acres that comes with 30 miles of trails, many of which are equestrian-friendly.

Prefer something indoors? The Eldorado Community Center is the neighborhood's most-used amenity, and on the grounds, you’ll find a pool, fitness center, park, and venues perfect for corporate events, weddings, and parties.
