The countdown to Hanukkah and Christmas has definitely arrived.
Tonight in Santa Fe:
Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on the Plaza
Festivities start around 3:30pm with the Girl Scouts selling cookies and hot chocolate. Formal entertainment is scheduled to begin at 4pm and will include local choirs, brass ensembles and bands. The Santa Fe Brass will perform again this year, Native Dancers and song. The Max Pack and Sol Fire usually takes the stage after the ceremony. Santa and Mrs. Claus’ make their appearance around 4pm, which is executed in true Santa Fe style. The Clauses are transported to the Plaza on a vintage fire truck that heralds their arrival with its siren sounding. Volunteers begin lighting 1,000 farolitos around 4:30pm, which will illuminate the Plaza until the main event at 6pm, presided over by the Mayor, city councilors and other dignitaries. Then, the crowd counts down to illuminate every light in unison.
